Welcome, Karen! Good to see you over here at my polite site!

It's been a long time since I read the article and wrote the doggerel, but I believe you just rub it on yourself like any other mosquito repellent. Skeeters aren't especially drawn to me, but there are some places... the Houston Arboretum in a certain season... in which no one gets away without a few bites. I'll have to remember to borrow the kitties' nip next time I go.

Hmm...cat nip. (Do ya have to eat it?) %-)

Well I think there is something about being Italian that skeeters like (and particularly when I was pregnant) - I always feel I could be at an outdoor party with load of other folks...and I'm the only one they'd zero in on who's be getting Bit!

Bryan, if you haven't read the recently issued posthumous collection, The Salmon of Doubt, it's worth your trouble. The collection is a bit scattered, and probably differs from what Adams planned for it before his untimely death, but it contains essays, magazine articles, etc. that I have not seen elsewhere. Adams was more than a great humorist and writer of satirical s/f; he was a deep if good-natured thinker on many subjects.

I miss DNA. His early demise seems like more proof that life just isn't fair.

For clarity... Gorey died almost six years ago. I'm just now posting a bunch of old poems.

Bryan, it was indeed. Sometimes I'll watch just the opening sequence, go away for an hour, then watch the closing sequence. I believe it was Derek Lamb (sp?) who animated Gorey's drawings.

Kevin, welcome, and thanks!

Stella tried that; it's impossible, given that Tabitha is on the thin side, and even the new, larger apartment has only one suitable place to feed the cats. The cats never fight over food, but Samantha certainly gets the (ahem) lion's share.

BTW, Bryan, you'll be happy to know that I've stopped requiring moderation of comments. I'm now at the mercy of WordPress's comment spam abatement, whatever it is they do. But it was just too inconvenient, for you and for me, when I had to approve every post.

There is diet food for cats, but it doesn't work if only one cat needs it.

Thanks, Bryan; I'd begun to wonder if comments worked, even after I tested them.

Sometimes I am concerned that Samantha may fill out the cushion along the other diagonal as well. Yesterday morning, Stella put out food for both cats; this morning, Samantha led me to the kitchen to point out that one bowl was completely empty. And just looking at the two of them, it's not Tabitha doing the eating!
